View Full Version : Do you feel that polls are over-used here on UO Stratics?

So apparently you can't delete posts that have polls in them?

Oh well.

I've rethought this morning's weirdness....Just in time too; I was about to post a third poll!

Subject line says it all.

You may select more than one answer.

-Galen's player

Over used, no. Poorly used? Yes. Too many of them have answers too limited to actually get most responses and more accurate responses covered.

Did you stop beating your dog?

Yes or no?

Funny, that's exactly what my third poll this morning was going to be.

Perhaps someone can start a poll to see if the results of this poll are consistant with the current playerbases opinion.

Can you imagine the weirdness if we were allowed to start polls other players could answer upon login?

Maybe someone should start a poll to have this thread locked/deleted as spam?

Ironic.

I assume that was directed at me.

For the record, I have only ever started 1 poll on this forum.

Thank you.

I voted yes. Somehow I got the impression a lot of the polls lately seem to target around the retro topic from slightly different angles. And after plenty of heated keyboard bashing they all seem to score at 50:50 in the end ;)

The creator of this poll (me) completely disavows it and have since about 2 minutes after its creation. As stated.

For those of you who insist on responding, I believe I made it so you can vote for more than one option.

Ironic.

What's ironic? The poll itself, or the fact that I've rethought it but it won't let me delete it?

Or both?

...I think it's directed at the OP here.

You know...starting a poll about whether or not polls are over-used.

Ah! Well, the comment was directly under my post. My bad :)

BTW...this must be a record. 17 replies to a thread and no one has told anyone to 'come to Siege' yet.

A thread is a thread, I don't see it get more annoying because of a poll.

*shrug* None of us are forced to answer polls, just as I don't read 85% of the posts.

So why in the world would anyone kick the thread?

Galen should use polls more often, it would allow us to better understand his arguments.

"Should Galen be happy about publish 59"
"Yes"
"No"
"Galen is a ninny"

Vote!

If it matters, the original poster (me) votes to lock them. If you leave them on S&R, people will keep posting in/answering them for awhile.

Remember now, I did attempt to delete this within moments of its being posted, but didn't see an option for it. I figured it was the poll that tripped up that option.

Stratics' polls are a poor reflection of the people who read Stratics and decide to answer the poll.

I would really like to see the Devs using dozens of polls on a new screen right after the UO login screen. One vote per account. This poll would be seen by everyone who currently plays the game and if people decide not to answer a particular poll, then the poll topic probably isn't important to the players.

I agree with you.

I don't mind polls as long as they are good ones.

Kratos Aurion

Yes. They're poorly thought of and solve nothing. If there were technical polls that gathered accurate statistical data devs could use to benefit the game, now that would be something worth** (what was i thinking lol?!) polling over.

Was the OP some kinda pathetic inside joke?

Cuz otherwise I am absolutely placing my vote for it as the worst post ever.

Or maybe the OP is involved in some kind of contest to see who can create the most useless, I have no rl post ever? If so it again gets my vote :(

Yeah well Goldberg you made one of the most worthless posts in all of stratics history on the pre patch QoR thread so perhaps Galen just saw that and wanted to go one better?

Seriously, read that thread from start to finish and if it doesn't make you cringe theres something wrong with your brain.

Ignoring the terms-of-service-violating personal attacks....The purpose of the poll, which most people have picked up on, was to mock the many polls in circulation at the moment that are all, more or less, made to agitate for a custom rules shard, and/or to promote the supposed superiority of the Felucca rules set.

Within moments of posting this poll, I regretted it. My posting it was part of a recent change of tactics which I, for a lot of reasons, deeply regret undertaking.

Not because I feel guilty or anything like that, but because the tactics I adopted just don't work well for me. For a lot of reasons. And, also, I'm just not comfortable with them.

I'll go back to being me, instead of trying to emulate others' perceived success. I intend to remain outspoken and have no illusions that I'll make any new friends. Rather I just intend to use tactics that I'm more comfortable with, instead of those that have (sadly) worked so well for others.

A general FYI

Using $ to replace s and other inventive uses of numbers and symbols is considered circumventing the profanity filter and therefore a breach of the rules of conduct. On those occasions where no action has been taken the usual reason is that the profanity filter did not need to be circumvented because the word in question isn't filtered anyway.
