It's snow pretty much all over Sweden at the moment. I live below Stockholm and we have snow outside. And the damn car keeps getting its locks frozen.

morning all
not snowing here, (outer hebrides) no frost either. beautiful sunrise, clear blue sky and gorgeous golden clouds.
we have, however, had some seriously impressive winds, and horizontal rain. that was last week. this week, been lovely so far. am hopefully getting the chimney swept this week, so i'll be making serious inroads into the peat in the barn http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And, speaking of footy (sorry for the ppl who don't like football, but had to rant somewhere, and GD will likely listen!): What a disgrace was tonights ref in the Scotland - Italy game.... If there was ever any proof of matches being fixed by UEFA, referees getting instructions, it must be tonights game! Italy just can't miss out for them bobos! Big teams always need to win. Bah!
And then the F-ing Dutch reporters/analysts going on abt how "justified" it is at the end of the day tha Italy goes through... Makes us wanna puke! Always these stereotypes about how Scotland can only play with their hearts, not with their mind putting a good display on the pitch. But they were freaking awesome, and outplaying those Italians! Morning.
The refereeing decisions in the last couple of minutes of the Scotland - Italy game were not very good to say the least. I have calmed down a hell of a lot since watching it in the pub last night. Ultimately losing a goal in the first minute was the downfall. Myself and most people in the pub were baffled by the substition. Scott Brown and Barry Ferguson were by far the best midfielders, so why take Brown off when Fletcher and Hartley had very poor games?
It's another glorious failure, we can talk all we like about beating France home and away, but France will be in Austria/Switzerland and the Scots will not.

And then just to rub salt in the wounds Israel score in the last minute . . .

I wouldn't say i'm getting addicted to it...although the Wii's game timer might disagree (5 hours and counting;)).

It's a "proper" Mario platformer, with a slight difference in the perspective and controls (it's very odd at first when you go over the edge of a world and are suddnly playing upside down).
You can play it with two people, the second one apparently assists in doing certain things.

It's one of the most enjoyable games i've played in a while, pure fun http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]If you've got a PS2, keep an eye out for Okami, if you want another fun game. It's also getting a Wii release, but it's nowhere close to being out, and I'm not sure how it'll port.
Basically, you play Ameterasu, the Shinto Sun Goddess, who appears in the form of a pure white wolf.
I spent many, many hours playing it, and my only complaint is that some of the "dialogue" is unskippable, and slow (there's no spoken dialogue, it's all subtitled). Beyond that, I'd say it deserves all the the praise it's received from reviewers, and more.
beyond that, it's really hard to describe. There's traditional combat stuff (with "divine instruments"), but also a "canvas" thing, where you use a "celestial brush" to invoke powers, through a gesture type system.

It's also an amazingly artistic game, passing up realism for an almost "sumi-e" style (Linkie of example (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Okami-issun.jpg)).

11-18-2007, 06:12 PM
Thanks Kimi, i'll keep an eye open for it when it gets it's wii release (I don't have a PS2:)).

HELLO woo new babbledom! sorry for my absence i have been at work all weekend so no time for computerness

@Coppelia
yes kimi is correct in that its from Irrational Exuberance, i first heard the Yatta song in one of wildcats flash works for I-C, i then used that song to put Zole off in the London meet up before ML was released playing the eye of argon game ( wiki version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eye_of_Argon) and a version of it (http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/SF-Archives/Misc/Eye_Of_The_Argon) ) it was much fun indeed, i found the flash whilst perusing through albino black sheep

@Kimi thank you for explaining it all while i wasnt here XD

11-19-2007, 08:08 AM
Personally I would recommend a Wii, as for me the games are really fun, and I like the control system (I never got the hang of the Ps2 style controllers - they always felt uncomfortable), but it's really worth trying it out first as I know some people who hate it.

I've currently got
Zelda Twilight Princess
Wii Play (if you can get it cheap it can give you the game + controller for only a pound or two more than the controller).
Metroid 3
Excite Truck
and Mario Galaxy

Of those Zelda is a great RPG/Adventure
Metroid looks very good so far, although it's not quite the same as the older metroids (slightly more shooting based).
Mario is rapidly getting me addicted - it's got just the right mix of classic platform action, with the addition of the 3d and controls for me (it takes a few minutes to get used to walking over the edge of the world, but it certainly adds to the fun).

Depending on the game the controls can work either wonderfully and intuitively, or very badly (IIRC EA basically ported a couple of Ps2 games over to it and spent next to no time adapting the controls for example*).
Metroid for example makes very good use of the controls, you use one to aim and interact with things, whilst the other controls movement and the grapple (the motion sensors take over the need for a second stick and a lot of buttons).

From what i've seen and heard it looks like there is definately going to be a shortage of Wii's in the UK this year.

*I think it was Tiger Woods golf that was considerably worse in it's controls to the Wii Sports golf mini game included with the console.

11-19-2007, 08:36 AM
i agree!

the wii is great fun, im waiting for ssbb!
i got tiger woods 08 with my console, played it for about 5 minutes and got incredibly frustrated with it, traded it in for mario party, muuuuch better http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've discovered how to free the stuck monsters in the hillsides of Magincia.

I exploded a light daemon near one by the North beach and it freed him.

So now the town is flattened maybe we can explode these creatures to useful purpose and get the island free.

I'm putting my positive attitude to work, now.
Yesterday, I stoned Inscription onto a mage. 96.2 Points.
Since I was only going to try and train it up to GM, I thought I'd drop Focus (as I was already doing) and Meditation, and take it a little easy.
So, in a hideous lapse of accuracy, I marked "the skill beginning with M" to down, and stoned inscription on.

What other skill, related to Meditation, starts with M?

GoB made a very strange trip to Magincia last night. They laid out loads of begged food and drinks, insulted Kaelyn a bit who was watching the docks and estranged a few passers-by. Not to mention the poor young guard member who got utterly confuddled by four GoB members complaining about the hell kittens in town and the lack of the guards intervention in that respect. And on top of all that did Crazy Miggie, the legendary founder of GoB, show up after almost 2 years of absence ... what a night! Expect a detailed story about it soon *grins*

So... Hello Europa, it's been a while! I read John's post about the GoB fun in Magincia at the weekend, and wanted to expand a bit.

You have not lived until you've seen Crazy Miggie lecture a horse on manners, report a lamppost to the guards for stalking, and produce his collection of "rare" 2-year-old fish steaks.

John II SRC
12-04-2007, 06:02 AM
Oh yes, that too!!!

I think you did annoy the woman who's horse it was a bit in the end ... the horse seemed rather indifferent to it. And the lamp post was literally unmoved. The fish steaks were still alright I think, a bit green on the side though.

But my neighbours must have thought me mad, with all the roaring laughter coming from my flat ....

John II SRC

Nope, luckily nothing happened to the house I live in.

And it's not a terrace house or something like what you normally have in England. Our whole district is made up of 1900 to 1920th, 5 floors high appartment houses with courtyards etc. ... so there are hundreds of people living in one block of buildings. According to the newspaper it was "strangers" lighting up the prams parked in the entrance hall. Looks like a gaping black cave now ...

Unfortunately there are always some idiots leaving the front doors wide open because they are too lazy to shut 'em after themselves, even at night. So it could have easily been us instead. This time we were lucky ....

I'm on Feathermoon US, working on my 4 70s, my 61, and my Gnome Hunter(tm).

Starting to finally find time to squeee some UO back in there http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Afternoon all http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You know how much we complain about EA/UO's testing of patches, I think maybe we should ease off them a bit (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/06/eve_online_update_danger/) http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

12-06-2007, 10:40 AM
Someone was talking about that in IRC, but I wasn't paying a lot of attention...
One of the few times I wasn't glued to the back of a flying creature, on a flight path that was about as far as it possibly could be from "as the crow flies"...

Of course, it's bad.
But it's going to be one of these completely unpredictable things.
But, you've got to feel sorry for them...

you lot can keep your snow. I hate the stuff.

Can't stay on my feet in it. Cold, wet, bruised rear and sprained wrist from falling in it not my idea of fun.

Lil' mistake today.
I was 105.5 Taming, I took my guarranted gain and insisted to have two more gains. But I was tired of taming unicorns in loop. I couldn't wait more for the firesteed. Several years of waiting. Sooo I'll get the two gains in order to make it bind later, I decide to seek for a firesteed.
I open the hunter's guide and see which stats and skills are good. Then I go to Fire dungeon. After a few firesteeds I had to kill because they weren't nice, I find one not too bad, so I stable it. But I'm short on stable slots and in order to continue taming with my nightmare I get my trained cat out. No problem, I'm back in Fire dungeon and after a moment I finally find a nice firesteed.
I come back to stables and I need to switch the previous firesteed with the new one. So I release my cat, claim one of my white wolves and stable my nightmare. Then I claim the first firesteed and... I release it.
The firesteed killed the cat before I was able to peace it. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I killed the mean firesteed, but I lost my trained cat.
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1209/deadcatgm6.jpg

It's sad, it already had 34 HP. I'm finished with kitty raising now. I'll focus on my squirrel and my white wolves (one is 90ish and the other 85ish).
Voila. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Off out today. Little grandson is in his first school play.

Going to re-visit a sensation I haven't had for 20 years, the one you get from sitting on kiddie's chairs in a primary school. Numb bum syndrome http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hello all babblers!

I have that typical thing this time of year, flu or something. Usually I get it when I lower the guard around Christmas. You know when you finally relax a bit you get all kind of illnesses etc. Or maybe you don`t, but thats what always happens with me. I usually get ill during vacations.. sigh. Anyway, I might be well and fit on Christmas eve this year. Yay!

Playing some UO, wathing some "Bones" on DVD and generally feel sorry for myself and waiting for spring.

It IS cold isn`t it.
