Oceania PVP Thread - Episode 12 -

OK, so we've been having a chat to some PvPers who were worried that PvP doesn't get a fair go on these boards. As a result, the moderators have agreed to allow this thread to be stickied so it can serve as the home for PvP talk on this board. Contrary to what many believe, we both understand that PvP is an important part of UO and we're willing to work with you guys as long as you are willing to work with us.

We will allow smack talk (moreso than normal threads that would likely have been locked on the forum), however, please do not get carried away with it.

Now, this thread is aimed to give the 'PvPers' who wish to discuss PvP topics and smack talk a place to do so.

Only two OPK are young enough to still be going to school, pretty sure it will soon only be one... (Drac almost about to finish yr12 I think). The rest of us are either working, studying in some kind of tertiary education, being parents or all of the above...

even though the last few patches towards pvp fixed alot of gimpyness, it has driven too many players away from Oceania.
It's [censored] ridiculous.
we have two guilds atm in fel, KOV &amp; OPK, pretty [censored] lame if u ask me.
Theres only a couple of decent pvpers in KOV namely Gendo and Wishes.

opk killed pvp on this shard by being too efficient. when 6 can take on 30, and usually win (like around 80%) there is no pvp.

which is a shame, because uo pvp is rivalled only by eve, and uo's is superior in its mechanics and execution.

Sure they used gay tactics, out numbered you etc etc... but look at Kov, OPK now. It's either dismount gank or para ganks.

There is probably a way to fix ocieana pvp but well.. none of you would go along with it.. it'll mean splitting ur guilds up and fighting alongside your "enemies" (maybe making 4 equally str'd guilds).. lol good luck with that...

Not only would making 4 guilds make it more balanced.. people will find it more interesting. knowing your action could tip the scale and determine if they keep the spawn or not.. rather then it being.... "ooo look rons have scouted us... lets leave"...

After Mother Russia left... wasn't really all that much fun... i tried to make a third guild to help balance ocieana but the inconsistency of people logging in just made it impossible... + also the fact KOV was recruiting like mad... KOV + TC became one guild... OPK.. nothing needed to be said...

Ahh once again the great Dalecti speaks the truth.

I found it more amusing when two rons and myself took out 9 of "tc's best" (they were even guard hugging) at BMG. Of course we were on reds, they were on blues, we were on scribe mages, they were on dismounters/necros/tamers/4fc chiv dexxers/bushido evaders and maybe one mage.

Another incident was when one ron and myself took out 8 KOV at oasis, never seen so many people drop so quickly and easily.

hell, i took out morry, buster and shuri *at the same time* by myself on despise island once. it was ridiculous how easy we could all take on our supposed rivals. the only challenge i - or i think any of us in opk - ever had was when we had muck-around fights and duels with guildies. at my best i was probably the fourth-best in the guild and was still light-years better than anyone in any other guild. there were probably another 4 or 5 after me who were in the same boat.

this is what i mean when i say opk killed pvp by being too efficient. it was unfortunate that *all* the best pvpers on the shard were drawn to the same team, because of similar playstyles/attitudes.

I don't whinge and complain when i get owned by two necros, gimpy it may be, but apart of the game it is. That's what is so unique about uo, the difference in templates that are on offer.

I just go and get ressed and continue.

I seem to get plenty of comments on my gimpy template after im killed when all the other templates that are being used are pretty damn gimpness.

well, i stopped playing since before the last patch, which at first i thought was a good one, and it is in many ways, but now there is no point having a template that is not a necro-mage. (it seems i was years ahead of my time with dalecti...).

the most balanced and fun/skilled template to use has been in the past the scribe-mage with either fencing or swords. able to do many things well, and relied mostly upon the skillful use by the player themselves, in making use of timing and spell choice, rather than just running around waiting for the server to determine if youve hit with your arrow/big axe or not. necro-mage is a bit easy because of the aforementioned omen-para (which gives you enough time to cross-wall someone if you are quick), and the fact that strangle and especially pain spike are overpowered. the stam drain of pain spike is a joke.

as it stands, you can still make a scribe mage that uses a wep that would be the most balanced and still effective template going, but as i see it, it would need a vet account (720 skills) with CRAZY gear, to make it worthwhile. failing that, a wrestle-mage with scribe is pretty non-gimp, now.

I was just starting to get into fencer/mage temp too, i wasn't surprised at all by the amount of people that left after that patch. As i said, the last couple of patches fixed some real gimpy temps like those weird tamer ones and bushi etc, but it also destroyed what was a very enjoyable mage template.

Okay now simply move your cursor (mouse granny) to the top right of the page, then click once... don't double click, you only need to click once! Is that simple enough for you? OPK destroys it then has a duel off to see who gets their name on the shroud now worth 1.5b, Glorious Lady wins, Jhelom Pits PvP Tourney... yeah, i helped make the single largest guild of active players ive seen at the time or since, that not only was so active we singlehandedly devalued stat ps significantly, and became such a force, made opk and tc team up against us, however briefly; but also introduced dozens and dozens of players - noobs and 'vets' alike to game content that they had never had a chance to see and probably never would have.

being the only person to have had the pleasure of being in both guilds for a significant amount of time, i can tell you that they are utterly different and not comparable. both guilds are/were the best at what they do/did. sdk was a highly active guild that enabled the shards noobs to band together to do the things that were at that time only available to the pvp guilds (opk/aod and tc/gan). sdk was wildly successful at that, but suffered in the end from naively thinking that our system that worked quite well for a smallish guild could work for 100+ active players as well. as for the supposed untold riches i earned out of 'scamming noobs'. i got one 6 x 120 char and a below-average pvp suit for the hours and hours of work i put into organising hundreds - hundreds - of events.

opk was/is the strongest pvp guild and its system is the best and most egalitarian, a process that has been refined over several years by all of its members. there is no 'leader' per se, but rather equal members who can rely on the help of their guildies in a fight. no more, no less.

both of them were ideal for what they set out to achieve, and i am fortunate that i was able to be a central member in both guilds in my time in uo and experience the best this server had to offer, from vastly differing perspectives. you, katlene, like a few others, only bitch and moan and wait for the devs to tell you how to have fun. you havent done a 10th of the things i have and you never will. that is what makes you a noob.

we ran that guild for close to three years and of that time about 18 months was at its 'peak' with 100 active members and events every day of the week. so i dont know what you mean by 'short lived'. i can tell you why it all ended - nothing to do with whatever 'devious machinations' in the background you think maybe you or tarkus (or whatever rping trams who think they know) had - you trams had no say about anything. it died because we both stopped playing. corn STILL gets messages from ex-guildies, and was getting many requests to restart the guild for more than a year after we left.

i would also agree with that. it takes two opk to do what other guilds need 6 or more to do, and opk does it in about a third or less of the time. when i say 'tram' guild i mean people who are of lower skill-level than average pvp-type players - ie kov, poc, vkr, etc etc.

haha. i personally handed close to 100 +25 stat ps (before id even used one myself), countless numbers of +20, +15 and lower of the other stats, and dozens and dozens of 120 skill ps (and uncountable 110s and 115s - worthless now, but at that time they were having to buy them off the reds that were stopping them from spawning) to my tram guildmates over the three years i ran that guild. aside from those measly benefits, we also (and far more importantly) gave most of those people the most fun theyd ever had playing the game - a comment both corn and i received on many, many occasions.

not all were ungrateful, in fact most really enjoyed their time and the things we were able to provide, it was just the few malcontents and members of pvp guilds that had infiltrated our admittedly loose recruitment standards that were unhappy. plus, you lonely housies and tradies sure do love some gossip.

whoever jhoward is, all you seem to have done is ride the meager coat-tails of other guilds like kov and tc, judging from your sycophantic toadying towards those guilds.

but to give you the actual story for the absolutely huge amounts of money we made, it was all from one person who paid us a great deal of $rl to fill out a wishlist of arties and scrolls. that money we then used to buy more items to sell to opk and tc and others. it was hilarious hearing corn barter lynn of tradespot down on the prices of those items as we were spending so much with her.

not as fun a story as the web of intrigue and thievery that im sure youve been told by tc and some trams, but nonetheless its what happened.

Now Necrokiller thinks he's a very smart person, correcting me on my spelling of "Mum", only to inform him that's the way we spell it in Australia and then him laughing at our country. ah, your answer is in the same post, matey. learn to read. we used the $rl to buy items off lynn of tradespot. we bought so many, there was no way we could have got them all from oce. at one point we had around 8 each of inquis, ornis, HoM, Aof, as well as 5 or 6 permanent bless deeds, and dozens of other miscellaneous arties and dozens of barbed kits. corn still has a blessed orni. we didnt distribute it to guildies, cos it had nothing to do with them. some guy (who is a current KoV member still i believe, and still friendly with me) asks us to do a favour for him and paid us to do so. it had nothing to do with anyone else, why should we give anyone the cash we earned? however, the guild still did benefit, as we lent some of the items to the few pvpers we had to help defend our spawns, successfully for a change.

Unlike many other gimps in KOV ETC i am starying a Scribe/Mage with Tactics.. So unless you have the acorns i would like to see you as one too.... But wasn't it kov and tc that use to travel in packs of mage/tamers...

Sorry but when you run around in two's or three's with the same temp and spamming same combo, yes it is gimp.
As for whether you'd beat me 1v1 with a alchy mage, i'd have to agree, i've not played a expl pot throwing mage before and you've obviously trained it for some time. I simply said that from my experience in the field your not that good 1v1 against the character that I play, and no i'm not a stealth archer, 4/6 chiver, mage tamer, sammy or any other gimp template. Now your teamplay is second to none, i'll give you that, but you got no right to whinge about gimp temps anymore. Your a necro mage? Necro mage and 4/6 dp is the gimplate of the month. All you have to do is strangle and painstrike, it's not hard and definitely not enjoyable, if I played my necro mage I'm sure you wouldn't stand a chance 1v1. I don't enjoy playing necro mages so I'm playing an alchemy mage.

It takes 4 seconds to pot yes but the target don't see that do they. You set a wait timer in your macro so that you throw it and when it lands you have next to no time before it explodes (i think you said .5 of a second in one of your earlier posts). So you start your throw pot timer OR pre cast expl spell, then start your expl pot timer then flame strike and bam expl/flamestrike/expl pot and your dead or redlined in about 2 secs as far as the target is concerned as he don't see the expl pot timer start and sometimes don't see the pre cast expl. I've been on the end of it, two opk hit me and I was dead before I took two steps. I've been on the end of it from just you and you had me redlined before I knew wtf was going on so please don't take us all for morons mate.

I can live with you guys playing these temps, i'll just dust myself off and keep coming, but I think most people will agree you can never whinge about gimp templates again...

Oh, and I never said that the poison field/expl pot inside the house trick was new I just wanted to make mention of the fact, which can be quite clear from your video's, that the ability to kill someone in their house adds to the gimpness of the temp.

I find it more impressive when someone says "I'm a surgeon" or "I'm a human rights lawyer" than "I'm a painter", however that does not mean the person who is a painter is dumber than someone who is a surgeon (which one could argue very easily), it could be because they prefer painting or a more hands on job than a desk job.

The only trades which I really truly respect (or interest me) are artistic ones such as an Artist, Musician or Actor, as I can see why people would be interested in following them as a career and they require quite a bit of skill to become good at.

A 20 year old tradie would usually earn more than say a 20 year old accountant, however the problem with that is the tradie almost always stays on that wage throughout their entire life and doesn't have many prospects for the future. Where as an account or lawyer will increase their wage more and more with the more experience they get and have a lot of prospects (such as going into banking for an accountant or becoming partner in a firm).

Anyway it just depends on what one enjoys most in life... whether it be the short way to average money or the long way to a lot.

This may be stating the obvious... but he uses wrestling for the para/disarm and for the added defense (also the ability to hold spell book at same time) it gives not for the pathetic damage that wrestling does :P

Not once last night did anyone kill me 1v1, you pathetic ex-TC scum, in fact you failed to even kill my scribe (Magical Que) once even though I was fighting you on him for over half an hour at least (thats 1 vs the rest, anywhere from 2 to 5 of you) AND it took you about the same amount of time to kill my pally (Sneaky) once, and you had to dismount me 3 (THREE) times before you finally killed me.

[1] is doing ok. It seems we only run into opk in fel these days, we have some pretty good fights, the only reason I play really. Neither TC or KOV have ever 'owned' fel, in fact far from it. Yes they did try, but failed miserably and now TC have mostly all quit to play WoW and KOV stay in Trammel 99.9999999999...% of the time.

LOL I never saw kov in their hey day (if they had one) cos I only been on this shard 4 months but all I ever saw from Kov since i've been here was safety in numbers and dismount ganks, hardly skill, hardly pvp...

Ok this is what kov have become, I thought i'd log on last night and do a quick scout of despise and low and behold I see three kov picking off newbs trying to spawn. Two stealth archers and a ****ty mage (wraith). The archers dont even show unless they are both together and they call wraith in as they dismount just to make sure. I got a couple of kills but then got dismounted but lived and mounted up again, but the stealthers and wraith ressed up, came back and dismounted me again and were successful in killing me this time. Oh well, it's all part of the game, but i had a little chuckle to myself cos I was thinking of that previous post about kov owning fel. It must have been a big fall from grace because now they only come out after midnight to pick off newbs, refuse to enter fel with no less that 2 stealth archers... just to make sure, you know. I mean they don't even try to use blues to kill coon and by the end of it I was the only one harassing them. I just don't see the satisfaction of playing a template that spends the most of their time hidden, but hey, thats just me.

I use my character name as my username so people know exactly who I am. You however hide behind a bogus name, i'm assuming it's because your horrible, thats ok, I understand.

Typical of newbs to cry foul when they always lose it MUST be cos the other person hacks, couldn't be cos your really bad...

I got three kills and died twice to two stealth archers and a mage and I was solo, I can live with that.

My point, which you clearly missed, was that the majority of the pvp world laughs at stealth archers as pvpers especially if, as these two do, never stray from each other or reveal themselves if the other is down. They might as well have signs on their heads saying I am hopeless at pvp therefore I choose this gimp template and will only fight in groups (as long as my friend is there too, who plays the same template). Now don't get me wrong, they are extremely useful to have in a field fight but honestly who the hell would want to play a stealth archer as their main pk? Every guild I have been in over the years has told the worst players who can't grasp pvp to make a stealth archer as their main...

I have played since 01'. If you read my post properly, I said I have been on THIS shard for 4 months. I lived in france for a few years and played drachenfels and europa.

At least when [1] fights OPK, 9 times out of 10 its mage/dexer fight without Stealth Archers, every now and then they bring in archer and use the dismount gank method.

KOV's only attempt I saw of them trying to PvP was they blue crashed us when Barra was out in the desert. They out number [1] 2 to 1 and got cleaned up twice before they gave up.

[1] are doing well and when everyone ones back on deck we will start doing some training on how to better work as a guild. We haven't don't it so far as it has been a rare time were we get completely owned.

By the way, who is Johnny Appleseed/Taylor?

OPK why dont you sign him up, he seems to be an OPK groupie and always fights by your sides. Ahh thats right RON said you CANT, LOL.

Actually me and elwood held our own in a 3way fight between 3 OPK (inc taylor), [1] (just me and elwood) and 5 kov/run working together. I'd have to say the losers of the fight were definitely the kov/run who racked up the most deaths. Was good fun for a change despise some people guard hugging/hiding behind stealthers *coughs* kov *coughs*.

Yeah that was some fun last night, more than two guilds fighting at bmg at one time. My old mate propagandi(appleseed/taylor) was gunning for me every time but only after someone else was attacking me first, it was pretty funny. I died to a couple of ganks, all good, it's fel, part of the game, but as pet said we held our own and took quite a few kills and ended up being the last ones standing. Funnily enough i ran into propagandi after everyone else had logged (this is the guy who cries "gank... unfair!" everytime he dies to more than one person yet it's different when he's on the other end) well we finally got the 1v1 he wanted and that didn't end too well for him... Black Wizard was there and saw the outcome too...
I actually expected him to recall off on me like he has done twice before in 1v1's.

Ask opk who were doing a 3 man rats at Despise, I took on one killed him while his 2 pals were hitting me, and I still got away alive. I was not going to give them the pleasure of getting me that easy. Still it was funny, in that opk brought out their other chars to get one little o'l stealther, to be ganked opk style. I would think if they are spawning they are on their blue dexxers (built for spawning) and you never showed yourself until you saw an opportunity to kill one while he/she was low health. You would never kill any decent pk 1v1 on a stealth archer sorry.

I have to admit that eric is one of the best stealth archers out there and i have had a few one on one with with my scribe/mage. He one of the few that dont retreated during battle. I would say he was on par with stumpy with enough balls to take on reds and blues.

She might take on newbs like you (no offense) but there is absolutely no chance in hell she would ever try and fight me without 2-3 more kov holding her hand and in doing that she would still die. The stealthers (or former stealthers) who I could list off the top of my head who have the guts to attack me 1v1 would only be Stumpy, More and when he played on this shard KvHokuto (la).
