View Full Version : My Official "I LIKE The EALand Changes" Thread
Some of the threads I have been reading have pretty much been nothing but a let's BASH EaLand and it's upcoming changes. I'm tired of this. There is a lot of rumors and misinformation about it, and frankly I'm a bit tired of the blah blah blah. So, I'm going to rant about why I LIKE these changes and what I'm looking forward to. Now, I realize this thread will probably be followed by an explosion of Second Life comparisons and whatnot, but have it, I've got my gloves on. And in a shocking rare alliance, Mario, Bowser, and Donkey Kong have come to back me up.
<center> http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/smitty557/donkey.gif http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/smitty557/fire.gif http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/smitty557/ani_1bowser.gif </center>
<font color="red"> First, as to the complaints regarding the Communtity Pub. First I would like to say I appreciate and enjoy being able to be a part of that. Unlike most games, the Devs with TSO are taking time out of their lives just to talk to us. They have been very up front about the changes, like them or not. One thing I hear is people upset that the Pub is in TC3, that they may have to delete a sim just to attend. Try asking a friend who has a sim in TC3 to pop in and ask any questions you have. If you don't have a friend there, PM me, I'll be glad to either answer your question or if I don't know the answer to consult with Lee or Parizad regarding it. </font>
<center>http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/smitty557/ani_1bowser.gif</center>
<font color="blue"> Next MONEY. First of all, we are living in a material world and I am a material girl. Okay not really I just wanted to say that.
Of course no one is thrilled that their money is getting taken away. I will be the first one to admit, when I first heard about the money wipe the only thing I could say about it contained word's that would make your grandmother cry. But it's happening. So it's time to deal. Take some time now to get your skills up - that way you'll start out on a stronger foot with jobs and money objects after the wipe happens.
If you run a store, stock up! The buy catalog will no longer be available to anyone except store owners. This is a prime opportunity to spend away your money now and be prepared. Of course you won't be able to charge as much for things after the wipe, but at that point, any sales will be pure profit for you. What I like is that this change restores each lot to what it should be. And not to forget, as subscribers we will get a monthly bonus.
The game had gotten too easy for those who were rich with a lot of rares - like me, I'll admit it. I'm looking forward to it becoming a challenge again, which in essence is really what a game should be. </font>
<center> http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/smitty557/donkey.gif </center>
<font color="purple"> Now on to custom content. People have nonstop asked for new items and clothing. Now - props to Parizad and the team as they try to incorporate as many of the orginal Sims offline objects, but also the fact that the Devs are giving us creative freedom. You want new items? It's in all of our hands. Designs, colors, they will basically be handing us blank canvasses.
There are concerns regarding adult themed content, which I spoke about in length in another thread. But I do wish to touch on it again. The Dev's will not be monitoring every single piece of CC added. They can't do it. Their focus is just to keep this game going for us, while trying to make it better for us. Unfortunately guys, if you don't like these changes, would you rather have a 90 day notice? I don't.
The goal from everything I've heard is for us to rate content and put controls in to block those things that you don't want to see, and in the same right for those of us out there that don't mind adult themed content can see whatever we want. Both sides can control it for themselves. In my opinion not only is that fair, it's the best approach on that they could have possibly taken. </font>
<font color="green"> Okay, to attempt to begin to end this colorful rant, let me just state the best things I am looking forward to with these changes.
*** After the merge, in EALand we will be able to have more than 18 sims on the lot. This is going to be more benificial when it comes to property bonuses and easier for skill and money lots.
*** The online EALand Website store - the talk is, is that when you place something for sale, for instance custom content, it will show on the lot but also on this web store. From what I hear you'll be able to access this, let's say at work, make your purchases, and when you get home, they'll be waiting for you in your inventory. This is also convienient for store owners because if your lot is not open, your items will still be on sale. This is a goal, but I would not be suprised to see changes/hiccups in this process, but if they can getting going, I think it will be really cool.
*** EALand equals no more Sim Move. Once all the cities have merged into one big country basically, we will be able to move about the plain without the hassle that is sim move.
*** Possible changes to skilling. There has been a lot of talk about this, it's not that they exactly want to eliminate skilling as a whole, it's more of it's time to change it up. I've heard talk of changing skilling into more of a quest/task/mission type of thing. If any of you say you do NOT want having something new to do in TSO I'd be really surprised. </font>
That's it for now, I'm looking forward to the changes, and have tried to make the best of things pre-change. At the end of the day I'd rather have a changed TSO than no TSO at all.
Okay *deep breath* feel free to go ahead with the argument!
<center> Get ready, boys!

I am so looking forward to the changes too, Rach.
TSO had gotten SO boring for me. I did quit for 9-10 months, but came back cause I missed my friends.
I can't wait for the TC/TC3 Merge as well as EA Land!

When I first heard about the merge and changes, I too was apprehensive. But now am looking forward to it and trying to find out as much information as possible in order to prepare. Rach, you stated that the 'Buy' facility will only be available to those with a store? Well, thats a good idea, however in both FF and CC I have a cash register which is used to pay for food eaten at my cafe and restaurant, but I have the skill category set to the property. Will this mean the cash register will no longer work and I will not be able to operate both skilling and eatery in unison? If you're unsure, maybe you can ask Lee for me in the pub next time you're there.
Thanks

I'm so totally with you guys on this...like omg.
I think we don't do enough for the Devs!!! I propose we offer to pay them double our subscription rate.
They are Gods only looking after our SIMple needs. How dare the nay sayers complain! They should be berated, these nay sayers.
The Devs took their time out of their busy work schedule to do their job..oops I mean to grace us with their ominous presence.
I propose we organize a fan club or an appreciation club of some sort.
I love you Devs.
Thank you, Thank you for Ea Land!

Can I not love the Devs? They've done so much for us. Surely you can see that. Please don't be disgruntled with them. It's all for our own good!
Rest in peace, TSO.

Marcin, like..omg.
I'm feeling warm and fuzzy in this thread (no, no whisky tonight).
I'm SIMply staying on topic. I just LOVE the changes and all the ideas.
I also propose we request a change of background music. Something "smurphy". what do you think? And instead of calling the money "simoleans" we should call it "Smurpholeans"!
OMG I think I'm going to the Dev chatroom!

Nice to see a thread like this. There are many changes I'm looking forward to. The biggest one I have a problem with is the Real Money for Simoleons and reverse plan. I think it'll cause problems.
The only other things that annoy me are losing the casinos (which are fun), and the name "EA-Land". Both items have been discussed to death in other threads.
Other than that, I'm trying to remain positive in hopes that this will be one of the greatest moments for TSO. Actually, I think the greatest moment will be when Will Wright returns to it, but eh.... I digress. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I like the changes, because it means we still have a community of players to rant and bicker and debate a game (yes, and indulge in sarcasm) here on Stratics....
http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/love/love0059.gif
......instead of the bunch of weepy goodbye-lets-keep-in-touch posts, that would be here right now....because the game would have gone black for ever at the end of last month, without these changes.
I am also looking forward to more stuff to play with, new challenges, new goals, different standards of success. Basically, a brand new game with many old familiar elements, and some long time friends.
I am enjoying the hell out of having a front row seat at the birth of a new game and seeing how it is designed and the problems worked out.
Where ever this game is, a year or two from now, this will stand out as one of the high lights of my time in TSO~EA Land and Stratics.

They walk around with their glistening tooth sparkle smiles, their over-the-top excited attitudes, and finally that something about them that makes you want to purposely trip them and think to yourself "lets see you be happy about eating dirt". I like people who are happy they can sometimes turn my frowns upsidedown http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif, but when they become on-drugs type happy it just gets annoying and you want nothing but to tape their mouth shut with a piece of duct tape lol. *shakes head while having a monotone face*

http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/wink.gifGreat Post Gilly!!
I am so happy with the direction of the game.
Now that so many things have finally been settled, I feel like I can finally just sit back, relax and enjoy experiencing TSO with all its new challenges and experiences soon to come our way. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/grin.gif
things I like.. hmmm, thinking hard here, oh yeah, I like the secure house trade feature, too bad that wasn't pushed to all cities. And ummmm, well hmmmm that's about it for now, oh no, I forgot, they got the move out on TC working finally, that I am glad for, many were counting on it. As for the rest, well I like a few of the things they have said they plan to do, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Maybe I should start an official "things I don't like about the changes" thread, I know I'd have much more to say there. I'm pretty sure a lot of others would too.

I like that we are all able to have some input in the game and it's changes and that the developers are so open and concerned. And I'm going to love Custom Content! Not only that, I have faith it will happen along with many other things.

I think so too, that's why I've not bothered.
To be honest, I was some what disappointed in the lack of rebuttals.
This is your thread about what you like about the changes, nothing wrong with that. I noticed there weren't a whole lot of people chiming in about liking much though.
I think a lot of us have come to accept the fact that the game we loved is gone. I'm waiting to see what happens, I won't decide whether I stay or go until after the merge.

I think like cntrygrl posted, you haven't gotten rebuttals because that isn't what this thread is about. We can definitely post all of the things we don't like about the changes on any/many of the multitudes of other threads on this website.
As for things I like, I like that they are finally after 5 long years at least attempting to make a contribution to continuing to involve Sims fans in this online game. The rest, like so many others, I will believe it when I see it.
4th year anniversary gift? If y'all can get it to me before the 5th is due, then follow it with an ontime delivery of something SPECTACULAR for the 5th on December 17th of this year....ok, then I will be somewhat more impressed than I have been thusfar with the "team"'s actual devotion to the players of this game, and what we actually want.
As to Laverne's post, it was so clearly blatant sarcasm, I am finding it tough to believe some read it "straight" lol, now that's the funny part http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The dev's aren't gods of any sort, they are folks who have a job developing for TSO among other things that I am sure they have to do at their jobs. It is their JOB to do things to try to fix this game. Appreciation for doing their job is warranted, adulation most certainly not. Just like anyone else, they are paid to do their jobs, paid quite well I would imagine, and I am glad that they are doing something at the moment, so they don't all get fired http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The biggest question still remains and won't be answered for months or years to come....Is all of the work the devs are currently doing & hopefully continue to do far into the future; is it in the end going to produce changes to this game that will be pleasing enough to the majority of current & future TSO players, to keep them actively involved & happy playing this game? Only time will tell.
Good luck to us all http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/grin.gif *thinking we may need it desperately*

Ya gotta admit, not everyone is going to like everything that is being done to this game. And I think it is out of respect that people are not bashing in this thread, enjoy it while it lasts.
I noticed you haven't mentioned all the things you love about the new changes. I posted what I like about them. Seems to me, from your both your posts here, you were hoping for the same thing the one who started it was. Be constructive, what do you like? What is there, that they've done for us, that makes you want to log in and play the game now? I'd love to hear it.
After years of 'do nothing', something is finally happening. I guess that's what I like best.
Whether or not I will like what actually turns up......... I dunno, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

In response to CG, but quoting Donavan because my answer is what he said. I like simply the fact that they are DOING something with the game now, instead of ignoring us like they had been for 2+ years. Do I like ALL the changes that are being made, nope......but I realize that I am not the only player in the game, and what doesn't appeal to me apparently does appeal to lots of other people, so that makes me happy. I like the fact that we will all be going into the new world on the same footing, even if we don't stay on the same footing for very long. I like the fact that we will all be in one place, one city. I am one who has been begging for a city merge for a very long time......it sucks to be limited to 1 or 2 of the current 10 cities we have in order to have anybody to play with. I like the fact that we will be able to play more than one avatar in the new city.
There are other things I'm excited about I'm sure, but it's late and I'm operating on sleep deprivation, but I hope that does prove to you that I am pleased with a number of the changes that are coming up, and really am not just chastizing those who are being overly negative for the sheer hell of it.
Oh, and KIR, yes I am enjoying this while it lasts http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Things have been entirely too dark and dismal around here these days, when really we should be looking to new light, even if we don't like everything that is in store. There will be those that decide this new world is not for them, and they will move on......I realize this. I just hope they can do it without any hard feelings, regrets or animosity, because regardless of what happens now, the last 5 years in the game have been wonderful, and walking away with ill feelings now, to me would be like saying all that time was wasted, and I'll never feel like it was, no matter what hapens.

I still like where EA is going with all the changes they have planned out. And yes I'm bumping this thread because it would be childish of me to start a new one. I know there are people out there who are happy with the changes EA is making. I know there are people who are unhappy with the changes.
Happy or unhappy, there are things to be positive about. That is what this thread is all about, positive things. Regardless if you are unhappy with the changes, there is still something positive, right?

I can't believe you guys are saying this. All the changes have been terrible and the devs smell like dead turtles. EA Land is a terrible name and I think Parizad sneered at me the other day. I can't stand the changes and I'm quitting. For real now. No one pays enough attention to me, and this is unacceptable.
Just kidding! Hehe. This is a fun adventure and I applaud everyone, players and devs alike. We're on a great track to our new home. :-)

Rach, thanks for making this thread. I agree on most things. These are some of my definitions and such. (On the main things that interest me.)
EALand = better for commerce since everyone will be in all cities at the same time, in essence.
Money Changes; good: make it more of a challenge so you can't be a millionaire by simply running a store for 5 minutes a day. I own a store, I spend about 20-30 rl mins there at most; so I'm not rich by any standards.
Money Changes; bad: yet more of those annoying beggars and especcially scammers.
About the EALand Website Store: I only thought it would be EA selling stuff, not a catalog of player-owned stores. If someone can point me to it, that would be great.
P.S. You get the pattern, I'm sure. I'm a die-hard capitalist and I enjoy it in game.
Idea: perhaps reduce the afk time-out time to 5-8 mins, that would mean that bot users would stick out like a sore thumb. (Unless they come back every now-and-then.)
Anyway, stop bashing EALand, the devs and such. The devs especcially, for obvious reasons. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So with these few responses here since I brought this thread back tells me one thing...maybe the game should have been allowed to die. I would have thought there would have been more positive results with this, but apparently not.
Oh captain, my captain.

@ EA/Maxis: Keep this game running! If I could, I'd help keep it running. I'm supremely glad that you didn't cancel it on me... I mean *us*.

YIKES!! How did I miss this one?
I like the idea of all my sims being in one city. No having to wait and wonder when or if your sim is going to have a successful move to their designated city. (though I do hope they fix that shredded clothes and be-boobed guy sim glitch. Poor Iron chef is so humiliated. haha)
I LOVE custom content and look forward to see all the houses adorned and created using custom content. I've been surfing around looking at lots at difference sim websites and can't wait to see it in TSO.
I like the idea that TSO is becoming an even more social experience other then just our little type written bubbles. (Instant access to Facebook. I'm a myspace fan but I'm 'trying' to get used to Facebook. That's all I can give ya at the moment.) Instant access to blueprints and tso-e. No more having to explain to newbies or other players where to go and read up on changes. Wonder when they'll get us talking on the game?
I like that they are working with house categories and making them more specific for their specific usages.
I really am over the top happy about being able to have ALL my sims in the same city!!
I'm happy that I'm getting to keep my house and my sim. After 3 years of working on it and getting it just where I want it....it would take me forever to remake it.
I'm happy that Bohemian Rhapsody isn't going to get wiped. That cat is very special to me and it would be so sad to lose him.
I'm glad I'm getting to keep my very special crafted items given to me during special events in my sims' life.
Hmm...I'm sure I'll come up with more!

Ok changing my opinion here...and posing a question. How can we be happy with "EALand Changes" when no one knows EXACTLY how its going to work? How can you be happy with something that does not exist yet?
I know most of the forum gang here are TC3 players. The rest of us "regular joes" really can't say we are happy or sad until the thing happens.
Ask this question again after the merge. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/wink.gif
This is mostly basing your ideas on what is currently posted on the blog and wiki. So, following what is posted, base your ideas off of that. I for one am for everything they are doing.

Well. When you think of it in the sense that before the dev team started working on changes, the game was pretty much dying fast. Then, out of nowhere, this guy (Luc) steps into the picture and is like LET'S FIX THE GAME. Now, we've got 10+ (idk the exact number now) people working on the game, instead of what we had before (which was one Community Rep and not even half a dev). I think that had these changes not been put forth, TSO would not be here today. Because I enjoy TSO and would rather it didn't die altogether: I AM HAPPY WITH THE DEV'S AND ALL THE HARD WORK THEY PUT INTO OUR GAME.
P.S. The caps are just put there for emphasis. I'm not yelling or being rude or anything, just emphasizing. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Then perhaps the question should be re-worded to "Proposed Changes"? ;-)
Edited to add: I admire your enthusiasm for the upcoming changes and undying love for the "devs", but never forget these devs are empoyees of EA and business is the bottom line. Being a capitalist, I'm all for that! Speaking as a serious gamer and one who pays for a product, I'll hold back on my applause until after the merge.
Merry Christmas All!
I didn't start the thread, but feel free to change the subject line
Not really. A lot of changes have been put into effect for TC/TC3 already. Because TC3 is the Test Center for EALand, we can guesstimate a lot of the changes for EALand based on TC3. If they weren't planning it for EALand, TC3 wouldn't have seen it. So, while some of the ideas are proposed, some are already a reality.

Well? it's kinda like what we've been through so far.
EAland will open and they will 'merge' the cities into it just like TC into TC3.
We will have no money and we will have a new economy.
Dev's haven't said if custom content will be there yet since it's still having problems in test.
If you want to visit a different city, you zoom out and select that city and zoom in.
Just like in tc3/tc, we'd be able to move our lots to whatever city we wish.
Hmm...don't know what else to tell you. It's gonna be kinda like what we are doing now but the testing of stuff will be in test and when it's ready for the public, it'll be added to ealand.

Thanks Dutch but I am aware of all the info. I know what the proposed changes are, Dear. I am simply saying....lets see how it all works! Lets save the applause after the merge, ok? Not being overly critical just being careful.

Sindran, many of us do not play in TC3.
I'd like to think of it less as applause and more of appreciation for the devs who work so hard on the game, only to see so many complaints on Stratics, the TSO-E comments, and at the Community Pub. Nothing wrong with a little appreciation...

I'm kinda excited to see what kind of other 'EA' titles they may bring in.
When players get tired of skilling or making money and are bored, they can just pop over to one of those lots and do something different without having to leave the TSO community to do it.
I LOVE custom content. That is an ever changing...endless pool of design opportunities for our houses and let's face it....some of us are addicted to building.
I can't wait until custom content finally comes to the clothing racks!!! UGH who ever designed some of the default outfits should be forced to wear them in real!!
I long for the possible overhaul of jobs and possible creation of new ones. Better incentives for completing job tracks.
There are some great ideas posted at blueprints. At one time I used to look at them and say....naw that's impossible to do. But I've learned to never think that way any longer. Nothing is impossible until the devs say it's impossible.
Hmm....dev appreciation? I think we have one of the greatest development teams ever put together. I don't care and won't listen to anyone who opposes me on this because I think our devs have gone above and beyond the call of duty by allowing us such freedom to add our suggestions and ideas, voice our gripes and concerns. Most games won't even let players any where NEAR their devs.
I think the devs are working extremely hard to resurrect this game and they've earned my respect. And in return, I am willing to do my part in helping them make TSO not only a great game to play but also a financially rewarding one for EA games.
Im excited to see what games will be brought in as well. it should be interesting.

So does no one else like any of the changes that have been made or any that are going to be made?
I'm still happy about the changes, in fact the more I learn about it the more I like it. Gooo Devs!

It's so sad to see that only a select few are positive about the changes. It's sad to see that stratics is turning "Let's bash EA" in every thread. It's just sad.
I for one am happy about the direction the game is going and the changes that have taken place. I am also looking forward to changes that are coming. I feel so lonely being happy with where the game is going.

Perhaps if we had more of an idea of "the direction of the game" and what exactly is in store for us in EA Land you might get more enthusiasm here.
I, for one, don't accept Parizads constant claim "Oh it will be super-duper-fantastic-terrific!! Just wait and see!!!11!" as any concrete basis that EA Land will be all that. CC is not the beall to end all IMHO.
What is the big secret? Why won't they give us specifics on what is too come? Not vague concepts which may or may not come to fruition.
Oh, and please, I don't need direction to the Wiki. Unless the ideas and dreams on Wiki have been committed to by the devs they are just that. Ideas and dreams.
On topic.. I like the fact that occassionally a dev will answer a question in the pub. Occassionally.

It sorta is the end all and be all.

Oh now I dont know, I dont see how you can expect people to celebrate something that is still up in the air "proposed changes" ? I reserve the right to "wait and see" if there will actually be something worth while to celebrate about. I think that is a more realistic view to such an uncertain future.
While I feel you have every right to be as happy as little piggies in poo, I will continue to "wait and see" before I join in the celebration.
I hope it does end up all fantastic and wonderful but so far Im not so impressed. Time will tell. k thx

Think of all the reasons in your own life when you've been vague about changes. I think you will find the exercise enlightening. Or unsettling.
And shouldn't this thread be "I LIKE TC3 Changes" ? Has EALand appeared yet? Or, are we cheering for the ideas that are not yet implemented? I'll applaud the idea of changes, but "Facebookgate" has soured any plans for me to don a cheerleader costume.
