View Full Version : LOTR Online!
Ok, so my Spring Break starts on Sunday and what am I doing for it... Getting the 7 day free trial of Lord of the Rings online!! Some friends and I are forming a fellowship and it's gonna be awesome!
Anyone played this game and have advice/opinions on it?
Also, so far we have a Hobbit burgler(Debuffer), Elf mage(Blaster), and human guardian(tanker)... We'd love some more friends to even out our team... Preferably of the Dwarvish variety. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/wink.gif Anyone interested? We're starting on Sunday and willing to devote hours and hours to kicking Sauron's butt!

My son plays that game. He says compared to WOW it sucks, they need to have more races/classes in it.

I have a lifetime sub but hardly play
I had pre-ordered it and got all into it but it ran to slow on my computer. I was getting taken down before I could even find what was attacking me.
I'm actually off of work next week, I could have played! But I wouldn't have been much help lol.
Aw KC! It would have been fun playing games with you again!!!

I played it for a short time. I thought it was very interesting but my computer was really slow and I didn't have enough patience for all the lag so I stopped playing.
It's SO GREAT! Currently I'm a level 16 Hobbit Hunter, an honorary sheriff of The Shire and I'm going to meet Tom Bombadil any day now!
Can i get a link to this game to try ;o?

I actually am a kinship leader for Covenant of the Sword, the Largest Kinship on Vilya with over 240+ Members. If you are interested in having a good time. Let me know. My ingame name is Fangnon.
Also for even people not interested in joining a Kinship... Lotro brings a lot of excitement to MMO's. It is not Sims Like in anyway but the content is always expanding, and most is based on story line. Give it a try at www.lotro.com (http://www.lotro.com) There is also 7 dayTrial accounts you can see at http://www.lotro.com/trial
Sweet Wir3tap! I've been playing on Brandywine and it's AWESOME! I actually just bought the the game two days ago and signed up for an account after the free trial! I love it!
I'm Tendersole (get it... cause of my big Hobbit feet) and I'm on the Brandywine server if anyone is interested!
It's so amazing.. The Shire is beautiful and it's such an epic story!
Stratics has a LOTR subsite.

I was a beta tester. And... yeah. I didn't keep playing once it released.
It's just WoW: LOTR Edition http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Same jobs, different names. Same quests, different names. Same game, different name.
And I hated WoW, so...
I dunno about it being a "WoW Clone". I've played since the betas and continuously there-after. To me, the world graphics and avatars of players and monsters as well as the weapons and armor and just about all the other graphics in the game are far more realistic than World of Warcraft's. As well, the User Interface is no where near that of WoW's, in my opinion. There may be similarities, but once you've played the game and gotten used to it, I am confidant you'd see what I mean.
I've always said in the past that no game could ever tear me away from Ultima Online. I played Ultima Online since the beginning and have always preached that "I was here in the beginning and I shall be here until it's bitter end." Well, I have proven myself wrong. In all these years, I have tried all the other MMOs on the market and none have kept my attention and amusement like LotRO has. I have now quit playing Ultima Online, after 10 years, making Turbine the only gaming company I now play games with. I still dabble on my 2001 accounts in Asheron's Call, it is Lord of the Rings, however, that has won and is keeping my favor. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Give the full game a try! There is (http://lotro.stratics.com/) a 7-Day trial download (click on the graphic in the right menu in the afore link) and you can choose between two types of Clients, the Standard Client or the High-Resolution Client. They have even added settings to enable DirectX 10 for those with Windows Vista and that DirectX version made just for Vista!
If anyone is interested in reporting news for Lord of the Rings, please do not hesitate to contact me! I can be reached at orvago@stratics.com or by PM here. You can find the Application Page here: http://www.stratics.com/php-bin/cron/siteapp.php?inst=lotro
For those who have tried it and had laggy results playing, give the trial a go again before opening your main account(s) back up. Turbine has added quite a bit of extra options to enable or disable that should help alleviate a lot of the laggyness caused by some of the settings that you can now turn down or on some, even turn off.
I'll get some screen shots of the all the options you can disable to help improve performance later this evening. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah! I turned my graphics level down and such and I suffer from virtually no lag.. It's pretty great! http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I have a lifetime account and I love the game. I particularly enjoy monster play and have a rank 4 spider and a rank 3 orc warleader. I also play a level 50 burglar on the regular player side.
I have always heard the comparision to WoW and I find that laughable. Yes there are some similarities, but if you really look closely a lot of the content and systems is borrowed from D&DO which was out before WoW and frankly I find WoW to have stolen a few systems from them.
Of course they stole some systems from DAOC who stole some systems from Everquest who stole some system ideas from Ultima Online. That's the nature of the beast. You either enjoy it or you don't.

I'm a founder and I absolutely love[d] it. Due to my RL schedule I'm unable to play, but I'd highly recommend this game to anyone.
I just started an elf!! He's so cool! I can throw fire and summon a raven!
