View Full Version : Crafting discovery - did not want this overlooked
(apologies mods for creating a separate post here after mentioning this in passing on the GA board but did not want this to be overlooked)
I discovered last night that in TC3 when crafting we are not docked for parts, wood and cloth. I don't know how long it's been this way, but from what I understand it's been a while. I did discover tonight that you *do* have to have some parts, wood and cloth in your inventory or you will get the message that you don't have the required materials, however when you have a success it will not remove the boxes from your inventory. I wanted to bring special attention to this because I know there are people scrounging around for parts, wood and cloth to craft with....I myself spent 7.5k on lovebeds, very thankfully after the discovery the person I bought them from was willing to buy back the ones I wanted to sell. Many stores would not be as gracious though, and I hate the idea that someone who is looking to get in the custom craftables business now that we have this cap to contend with and that money doesn't go toward it might spend lots of money on used items, only to find out that all you really need is 5 boxes each of parts, wood and cloth since that is the maximum of any one of those that an item would call for, and it need only be present in your inventory.
Hope this helps some people save some money or avoid wasting it in these hard economic times in-game http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Evidently not.....as recently as yesterday it was still happening for me. I've got lots of boxes for if/when they do actually fix it, but somebody forgot to flip the switch with that update, or another update after that screwed it back up, not sure which as I was not actively crafting then, I was still skilling up.

I just can't bring myself to cheat or exploit a known bug. But if you're OK with it then that's cool.
All I can think of is WWJD?

Yea, I think telling people about it and using it is kind of taking advantage of a known bug...I'm surprised this post is still up and hasn't been removed...

The purpose of this post was to keep people from spending money now on stuff that they are not going to need until after the bug is fixed. Do you honestly believe that bug reports have not been sent to the dev team about it? I can tell you with 100% certainty that you're wrong, so I am sure the devs will get to it whenever they can. What do you expect crafters to do, not craft until the bug is fixed? Because that would be the only way to not 'take advantage of this bug' and I can tell you in TC3, that would make a good many people who are looking for crafted items upset. The only way I'd be really exploiting this is if I was factoring in the price of the boxes that it SHOULD take in the prices that I sell my items at, and anybody who has bought from me or sees the prices that I do charge knows that I am not.
This post is still here because it's not an exploit, it is a known bug in game and there really is no way to 'exploit' it, since you are still charged every dime of the cost of crafting when you have a success, so how exactly do you think I or anybody else is gonna make heaps and gobs of money off this the way we did with the last thing that really WAS an exploit?
I honestly cannot believe I'd be accused of exploiting because I warned other people *against* throwing money away right now AND by extension reported a bug that might not be known about. I suppose you think that taking advantage of this skilling speed in TC3 that may or may not be a bug is 'exploiting' too, huh? http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Sorry Hun if you believe, as you do, that you are not exploiting the game then you are dead wrong. You in fact are exploiting this bug 100%.
Just because you get charged when the object is made has no bearing on the salvaged boxes of items.
What you ARE in fact exploiting and cheating is the fact that you only have to salvage items 1 time and you are reusing the salvaged parts over and over because the game is not deleting them from your inventory when it should be. You are saving on the purchasing of items to be salvaged and yes you are in fact exploiting the game and cheating.
Whether or not bug reports were submitted or not also has no bearing of the fact that you're still exploiting a bug in the game. Regardless of your pricing too, it's still exploiting a known bug whether the Dev's have time to fix it or not.
Now although I do understand "should people wait months for the Dev's to fix something as people want crafted items". I'm simply saying that your thinking is flawed if you believe that you're not exploiting the bug, you clearly are no matter what price the object is sold for.
I also thought that any posts explaining how bugs/exploits are done were to be removed or deleted?
This is a bug.
The difference is that you cannot craft without this happening. It is a bug that affects everyone equally with no special knowledge needed. You do not need to sleep/eat/shot sim with cannon/dance 3 times/then hover AFK for 9 seconds before crafting in order for it to happen.
Another clue that this is a bug is that Lee put the details in the release notes as Polly quoted. When have they ever done that for an exploit?

I think you are missing the point milton, if a bug exists and you exploit it, good luck, regardless of if it's listed somewhere. It's called taking advantage and people have had their accounts cancelled due to exploiting known bugs in the past. Just because you can, does not mean to say you should which was the point being made and I agree with. As I assume this is just TC3 I doubt EA will take any action, I would not rate your chances if it was on the main server and cash out was implemented.
Can you craft <u>without</u> "exploiting" the bug?

yes, things that don't need parts.
For things that do need parts, no you can't. The actual demand for crafted objects in TC3 is quite low. You can live without roach motels or those naff beds. There are loads of them for sale, more than the market can handle. Really, if there is a problem with the crafting system, don't do it. I'm sure repo man gave a "exploiting" [censored] about the people that paid good money for stolen goods. (and I can see you doing that with your fingers, it's sad)
So, some background on the motivation of crafters on TC3 right now; the earnings cap hit hard, some people wanted to make more than 3k a week, some more than 3k a day. Suddenly I had an influx of people wanting to make whatever they could, hell, 1k profit not capped on a crafted computer is great, so prices fall...500 profit on a computer, until no ones wants one or they just craft it at 2k for themselves.
So all the people crafting now are roomies/alts at money/skill lots to make what they want for their lots and in answer to your question, no they don't need to, they can easily go out and buy this stuff, there's tons of it for sale from before the bug even happened, they just don't want to pay the prices or they want to put the items for sale in shops that are open longer hours.
Like anyone actually needs to craft these items?
I actually closed my service lot due to people like frenchee and people thinking like you do
