Do you use fear to keep them away?

While adventuring on my lock, I was shadowed by a much higher season Warlock. I am not quite sure why, but she watched me intently, none the less.

My play style has me use my VW to tank the foe while I am back some distance doing DoT's. But when one of my battles was complete, the onlooking Warlock asked why I never fear the monster and let the DoT's do the work?

Although I have seen this done by others, I have always had trouble with the feared monster aggroing even more monsters onto me.

What is your solo style? Do you use Fear? I found I have the short cut to the spell on my second row of spells, i.e. harder to get to so I never cast it unless I have several on me.

Fear is a big no no in any instance.

I think its used mostly for pvp

Fearing something repeatedly is a good skill to master because it is your best bet at soloing the toughest mobs. I use it a lot in PvE, especially when faced with elites close to my level. It does require a careful choice of location and a bit of practice to avoid pulling the entire zone's worth of enemies down onto your head... if a feared target starts to go in the wrong direction, you can throw Curse of Recklessness on him to break it, then replace that with one of your other curses when you need to fear him off you again.

The other main warlock strategy is to put up your DoT spells and drain life while the enemy hits you, and this is what I usually do when killing green mobs for soul shards.

The voidwalker tank is a very valid way to grind, though. He doesn't scale up well and cannot usually hold aggro at later levels (or if you are impatient and attack before he gets his taunts in) and this is why many warlocks dismiss this way of grinding -- but it works. http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/shared/images/graemlins/smile.gif
