Default Named Item Non-Artifact SA Loot Drops

Sorry for doing yet another thread to collect information, but I figure it helps us all out, eh?

Anyway, I was trying out the Percolem quests tonight and did the one where you kill 20 raptors. Found this little gem as loot on one of the raptor corpses. It kind of stuck out because of it's nice gold color. I haven't touched it since picking it up, other than to insure it. In other words, it came with the 255/255 durability.

Has anyone else found something like this, either armor, jewelry, or weapon, as loot??

I guess this thing deserves a screen shot too, in spite of all the trouble it's caused so far. If you don't know already, it's obtained as loot by killing Tyball's Shadow in the Underworld. Just look for the crowd of campers.

The reason people farm it is because they want to cut it up into yards of cloth (thats what they where talking about there when I got my key) But why do that, abyssal cloth can be looted off monsters in the abyss.

I was using a greater dragon and the tamer's suit had 511 luck on it. (I never remember to use the luck statue.) Was killing raptors for one of the Percolem quests and to get ingredients and was actually hoping for trapdoor spiders to show up in greater quantities but they never did.

How do we get these items? Loot drops? Stealing? Crafted? Please let us know where you got one and what it dropped off of.

Seems to be much like the ML drops... Named monsters or peerless, etc.

Maybe you gain health when dealing poison damage or hitting a poisonous monster.

Are there no artifacts for non-gargoyle characters anywhere in the new stuff? If not, that's pretty screwed up. I'd have zero reason to do any of the high end stuff other than just to have something to sell to someone else.

I'm not sure, but I think the ones Tazar listed under 'Other Artifacts' can be used by anyone.

A few minutes after killing a Vitavi [Renowned] monster on Yamato in the Cavern of the Discarded area, a Blade of Battle spawned nearby on the ground. 'Tis mine now!

btw, I would for one call these Artifacts.

I don't think there's a definition of Artifact per se, but I'd call it an item type that spawns always with the same properties. In other words, you can make a Leafblade of Ease that has different kinds of properties. It is not an artifact. But the Overseer Sundered Blade no matter how many times you make it is always has the same properties. It is an artifact.

A katana can have many different kinds of properties. A Blade of Insanity, though, always comes with the same kinds of properties. It is an artifact.

This definition isn't hard and fast, as some of the Replicas (Champion Spawn Artifacts) spawn with slightly different sets of properties...But the differences are never too great.

It wasn't insured and had full durability. So I guess I'll never know if someone pitched it or if that's the way artifacts for killing the renowned monsters in that area are presented. There's no way it went in and then fell out of my tamer's backpack because she wasn't anywhere close to being overweight, stood back far enough to not take any hits from the renowned monster to avoid being spell plagued, and wasn't carrying anywhere close to 125 items. It also showed up about a screen from where the renowned monster died.

It was on Yamato about 2 hours after server maintenance and on a Sunday morning. Would someone be cleaning out their stuff at that hour? Who knows.

I had the same thing happen earlier fighting in the acid spawn area in the Abyss. I found a bright red Breastplate of the Berzerker just lying on the ground. I too was not overweight. I also BELIEVE that this occurred before I had finished killing the Renowned acid elemental, so may have come from something I had fought earlier during the spawn. No one else was there, I was the first person on the scene after server up, and it is not a very popular area as far as I have seen.

It would be nice if the Devs could change this drop to appear in your pack or at least in monster corpse, instead of randomly on the ground.

I agree with posters who say these items are artifacts, specially named unchanging examples of their types. The Breastplate has 10 ssi, 15 di, lmc 4, stamina regen 3. hit point increase 5, and mid-decent resists (18/16/5/11/5).

Well, either someone's sneaking around and dropping them (perhaps because something's broken?), or it's a new measure to stop afk farming for artifacts that just pop in your backpack.

Because I was fighting acid elementals, I surmised that the artie on the floor was a remnant of the ancient system of elementals just dropping all their loot on the floor at death (eles had no bodies), but seeing as you were doing a different spawn (?), this seems not to be the case.

If you check the 60.1 publish notes, you'll see that they've changed it so runes and books will not go to the cavern.

Well poop! Maybe bags with runes inside?

Hrm guess I should post my "Magic Key" here. I got it off a goblin renowned, can't remember which one. It's just like the magic key graphic to get into the puzzle room but of course there's no timer.

From the Primeval Lich champ:

Click the image to open in full size.

It showed up in my character's backpack along with the power scrolls and there was a message saying something was placed in her backpack.

It still seems odd things like this aren't labeled as artifacts.

Edited to add: A guildmate told me last night he got the Axes of Fury from killing Navrey Night-Eyes.

How do you mean aren't labeled?

If you mean that they don't have the artifact rarity property?

Don't worry about that, it never meant much. Have you seen more Blades of Insanity, or Blades of the Righteous? Which has Rarity 10, and which has Rarity 11?

http://www.uoguide.com/Artifact

That article is a little ragged, we need to fix it up, but it's a good overview of how far the concept of Artifact has come.

Also please note the Publish 60 notes:

http://www.uoherald.com/news/news.php?newsid=932

which explicitly calls these new items "Artifacts."

The concept of artifact has gone far beyond the original Doom Artifacts. Indeed, many of us basically retro-fit the concept to fit the old Seer Items, such as the katana Spark on the LS shard.

I guess I'm curious about the lack of an artifact label on these items and how it affects being able to do other things with them, such as unraveling them, using dyes on them, or using powder of fortification or repair deeds on them.

The problem I see is DCI.

the best you can achieve right now is 30, anyway you look at it. (gargoyle)

Gargoyle heart of the lion, and my problems are solved for now.
(thats with wrestling)

Now, give us another main slot piece (legs, arms, kilt, necklace) with some DCI, and we may be able to pick up a sc mageweap with no neg, and start playing with the big-boys.

edit: I've started a whole thread concerning gargish pvp-quality suits: Can i please get some 'higher-up' attention??

I got the Storm Caller boomerang artifact from a Renowned red-hued ratman champ from one of the Cavern of the Discarded mini-spawns.
Not really sure which of the three spawns it was - I happened to stumble on the champ when he had already spawned.
The Storm Caller didn't drop in my backpack - I found it in the ratman's corpse as loot.

Further confirmation that this stuff does indeed spawn on the min-champ spawn bosses.

I'm very glad they have what appear to be at least semi-valuable rewards for those.

btw, I noticed something interesting....Per my own definition, some of these items are actually not artifacts, because their properties vary.

Then again, some of the Replicas' properties also vary. Yet most of us still consider those artifacts.

*sighs* Oh well....Whoever said UO was characterized by clear definitions?

That particular lack of clarity I don't mind that terribly. Other kinds of lack of clarity are a different matter!

FYI I was farming bottles of ichor from wolf and... whatever that larger spider spawn is (predator?).. by Narvey's entrance. Anyway I got a raed's glory in my pack when I killed the larger spider. It isn't a new SA drop but it looks like the larger spider at least has some paragon loot rules tied to it. I killed maybe 20 of the larger breed and only one drop. Nothing like that from the wolf spiders.

Is the drop rate just crap with these things? I killed 9 renowned ratmen this morning and not a single thing on any of them.

And really, a creature with more HP's than Barracoon only has 300ish gold on it? Who comes up with this stuff?

Ok, call this a stupid question, but do these look any different than any other weapon, etc;?

I have fought Renowned's like crazy, and never received anything (and their loot stinks to boot).

The raptor's claw has a light greenish tint that makes it stand out, but otherwise it's just shuffled into the loot.

I also got a staff or resonance that was just shuffled into the loot - noticed it because the graphic was different than other staffs.

But so far I haven't received anything from renowneds.

I've only gotten the Blade of Battle (shown above) and the Pillar of Strength (gave to a guildmate, didn't get a screen shot). Both showed up laying on the ground near where my character was after killing a renowned monster (first time in the Cavern of the Discarded, second time in the area in front of the Stygian Dragon's lair).

I finally got one, Blade of Battle, from the Cavern. I don't recall the name, but it was the spellcaster boss. It was laying on the ground.

They really need to stop with this crap of having the items spawn on the ground. There are people running through that area constantly with their thieves. It would be nothing for them to sit and wait for you to do all the work, then pick up your reward and take off, leaving you with nothing to show for a lot of effort.

The Eternal Guardian Staff (Gnarled Staff)
is a Human weapon, hence the (Gnarled Staff) description.
To answer where to get one? I have no idea
but I have seen it 1 time on someone.

This ring is a known item.

If this were any location other than the Cavern of the Discarded, I would say that this incident is proof that the Renowneds can spawn any of the SA artifacts, save for the monster-specific ones like the Raptor Claw.

These items/artifacts whatever you want to call them appear to be intended to spawn in the following ways.

1. In your pack, upon killing a major boss monster such as the Slasher of Veils;

2. On the corpse of a Renowned.

However, sometimes they spawn on the ground near a Renowned instead of on the Renowned's corpse.

Given that this is the Cavern of the Discarded, however, it could easily just be that someone tossed the Ring into the trash, on purpose or not we can't even begin to guess, and it appeared there.

So we still don't know yet if the high-end SA artifacts spawn with the Renowneds or not.

*sighs*
