Sorry if this has been asked before. But I was wondering how much on average do people actually tip when they visit a property. I know you don't have to tip everytime you go in, but it would be nice to know what the average amount is expected from you.

The opinions on this are going to be as varigated as the posters here on the board are, but what I try to do, is I try to keep track of how many plates I eat, and then my base tip is $1 or $3 per plate depending on whether or not it was buffet or HC. (Buffet costs the owner and roomies less so that is one reason it is more popular). After that, it depends on what 'extras' the owners and/or roomies have. If they have a maid on and they don't harp at guests about cleaning up after themselves, that's more. If they serenade their guests while they skill or while they eat to either make them skill longer or green faster, that's more extra.

The reason I started doing this is that I feel 'hosting' has really become a lost artform and the sim world has resorted more to 'putting a doorstop in the door to hold it open' (ie opening their doors and then being afk the rest of the time, only coming back to make food sometimes after 3 people PM them, and only calling the repairman when the room is 100% red, again after numerous requests/pleas. Good hosting should be rewarded with good tips, IMO. Mediocre or downright bad hosting ought to be rewarded likewise with same.

I generally tip §10 per each plate of home cooking I consume while visiting, but never less than §35.

It used to be standard practice to tip the host of a money lot, the equivelant of two or three payouts, especially if you have been there a long time, earning money on their objects....this is on top of the food tip, because money objects are expensive to repair.

There are no set rules, everyone has their own idea of what is fair. Just pick an amount you are comfortable with and can afford.

Thank you for replying. It was interesting what you had to say. I know the tipping amount is up to the person but when you put it into details like this, it does make you realise just how much some hosts do for people and that they should be rewarded with tips.

Thank you for your reply. Do you think the hosts know how much a person tips. Is there a record of the amount a person puts into the tip jar, or is it just a general amount of tips they collect.

Personally I tip each time I green (that way if I have to leave quickly I dont have to worrry about it then)

I tip a minimum of $10 per acticve roomie (ie the ones that do the cooking and singing) if there's only 1 roomie there then they usually get $25 per cycle plus I will clean bathrooms, water plants, and help sing if they need it.

I noticed last week when I ventured over to TC3 that the amount I put in the tip jar showed as a '-' figure above my head (as it does when the maid/gardener/repair man leave for the day) so if the roomie is looking then yes they can see who is tipping then how much.

I think only you can see the amount above your head.

If the lot is not busy you have the check tips action which allows you to see the amount in the tip jar from afar so if you could be bothered you look before and after.

I only ever tip $1 as an insult to the service, samething happens in real life

I don't always tip. I do always clean up after myself and help out around the lot, particularly if it's a busy lot. When I do tip it's on average $100 - $200. At the beginning, when I didn't have much cash, I just tipped what I could afford. I don't use a formula other than - good host = lots of help and/or tipping, bad host = clean up after myself and leave and don't return.

I normally chill at my store. But when I do go out somewhere if there is a good host I tip them $500. If its a bad host they get nothing.
